Humpback Cowrie Shell
Cypraea mauritiana Linnaeus
Humpback cowries are humped, thick and heavy. Their color is a rich chocolate velvet with spots that range from light brown to white. The aperture creates a pronounced curve and its ends are shaped like horseshoes. The teeth on these cowries are especially large and their dark brown color make a stark contrast with the intervals in between.
Humpback cowries are found under rocks.
