SNIPE’S BILL MUREX – MUREX HAUSTELLUM
Haustellum haustellum Linnaeus
This murex has a solid body, a low spire and a slender siphonal canal. It is axially ribbed and has three varices per whorl. This shell is creamy white or pink in color with walnut brown stripes and dabs. Thick brown stripes lie on the varices and the apertural lips are generally orange or pink.
Snipe’s Bill Murex shells are found in intertidal sand flats.
