The Australian Trumpet is the largest gastropod known to man. This magnificent shell has a spacious body whorl and a tall siphonal canal. The outer lip is thin, and the tip of the spiral has been lost, signifying the maturity of the shell (this is normal and occurs with all Syrinx shells over time). The shell is apricot in color. The Australian trumpet has been used by Pacific Islanders as water carriers.
